Immunology is a branch of biology which deals with the study of the immune system of all life forms. The immune system is responsible for developing the defence mechanism inside a body to resist the attacks of germs and microbes. If the immune system fails to perform in a living body, it succumbs to diseases, autoimmune disorders, allergy and cancer. Recent researches have shown that immune disorder is also responsible for some of the metabolic, cardiovascular and Neuro-degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. The study and research work in Immunology has widened the horizon of medical treatment and facilitated the diagnosis and control of an array of diseases which had so far been thought uncontrollable. The specialist who has studied and acquired expertise in Immunology is called Immunologist. An immunologist can function as a researcher or clinician who helps in the diagnosis and treatment of certain autoimmune disorders, and allergies, etc.
