This academic program provides training in all aspects of transfusion medicine including blood center operation, patient transfusion service, donor & therapeutic apheresis, thalassemia, hemophilia management, viral screening and immunohematology. The students receive extensive training in running a large hospital-based blood transfusion service.
During training, the students work as Junior Residents rotating through different divisions of the department, such as blood donor sessions, apheresis, components, Immunohematology, TTD screening, quality control, outdoor blood donation drives, blood processing, cross matching etc. In addition, the candidates are posted in allied departments such as Pathology (hematology), Microbiology, Genetics, Immunology and Anaesthesiology.
