Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery (DHMS) is a four-year full-time course which includes six months of mandatory internship. The main focus is on strengthening the immune system and healing of the patients. DHMS is a part of alternative holistic medicine and the students get to learn about Homeopathy medicine foundation, analysis, evaluation, medicine, surgery, etc. The diploma course has been designed to train a student and make him/her a qualified Homeopathic Physician capable of practising independently or under a hospital/governing body. Homeopathy is popularly known as alternative medicine. It was developed by Sir Samuel Hahnemann in the year 1796, using the principle ‘Like Cures Like’. It simply defines that the thing which causes the symptoms of a disease in a healthy person must cure the same symptoms in an ill person. Etymologically, the word homeopathy is derived from two Greek words ‘homeo’ and ‘pathos’. In Greek ‘homeo’ means similar and ‘pathos’ means suffering or treatment. Therefore, the homeopathic doctors try to find the root cause of the disease and offer its cure or remedy by eliminating the cause. Naturally, homeopathic treatment takes longer to cure a certain ailment. The homeopathic doctors use natural substances like plants, herbs, minerals, animal sources in diluted form to prepare the medicine. They use a very little amount of these things and dilute them in alcohol or distilled water to prepare the medicines which are absolutely devoid of any side effect. Homeopathy treatment works well in the case of certain chronic and acute diseases.
