Duration:Â 2 Years.The operating theatre (OT)
technician is an integral person in the dynamic operating theatre
team. Diploma in operation theatre technology is a two year diploma
program designed to build a trained and qualified professional who will assist
medical professionals in the operation theatre of hospitals, intensive care
units as well as emergency departments. The success of the procedures and
safety of patients depends largely on the reliability of the OT
technician. Diploma holders of this course will possess desired technical
and interpersonal skills required to work under the supervision of nursing,
anaesthetists and surgical personnel. Distinct academic programme curriculum is
taught by qualified & experienced by faculty members; inter-disciplinary
project based learning; exceptional computing facilities; state-of-the-art
laboratories; clinical interactions and hospital based internships.Human
anatomy & physiology, surgical equipment & machinery, biochemistry,
basic surgery, advanced operation theatre instrument care & maintenance, basic
anaesthesia equipment & drugs, basic and clinical pharmacology, pathology,
bio medical waste management, specialty surgeries-2 (common operations and
laying of instrument trolleys: paediatric, cardio thoracic & vascular,
plastic surgeries, post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) anaesthesia technology and
microbiology.Diploma holder will find a challenging career in hospitals,
emergency centres and private laboratories. They work in the operating
theatres, ICUs and emergency departments of hospitals and nursing homes.
Openings are available in the areas of transplant teams, orthopedic clinics,
gynecology sections, cancer units, surgery, special care baby units etc. and
also in the field of research, education and training. They are appointed in
the workplaces of physicians or dentists who perform outpatient surgery.Candidate
shall have passed 10+2 in science stream with physics, chemistry and biology as
compulsory subjects. In addition, candidates will also have to appear in GATA
(Goenkan Aptitude Test for Admissions) and personal interview.
